"Adnyapatra" can be refered to as the principles and rules followed in a
particular period. The "Adnyapatra" which were written by Ramchandra Neelkanth Amatya are complied by Dr. P. N. Deshpande
in form of this book which throws light on the rules followed in the time of Shivaji Maharaj.
Ramchandrapant got the role of secretary i.e. Amatya at the time of the coronation
ceremany of Shivaji Maharaj. Further he played a pivotal role in the tenure of Sambhaji Maharaj and Rajaram
Maharaj too.
Sambhaji, son of second wife Rajasbai of Rajaram Maharaj started his tenure in 1714 and
had ordered to write a composition of political administration rules i.e. Adnyapatra. This is the base of the
handwritten copy of 1801.
The first two sections of the adnyapatra has history of Shivaji, third to ninth
section describes the administration, financial arrangement, army, forts. It also specifies king and his
duties, soldiers, the arrangement of forts etc. covered by author. In this political situation, India had
some Arabic, turkish and mughal influence, but Shivaji Maharaj also had a welfare approach for his
soldiers and followers, and respect for women in society, can also be effectively pointed out.
